4th of July

I hope everyone had a great 4th of July holiday weekend!  On Sunday we headed out to the cabin for a mini version of our annual 4th of July Samish Island celebration.  It was a family-only party {though inevitably a few fun friends stopped by to say hello which felt so nice and normal} but the celebrations were just about the same with a wheels only parade {where I didn't have to fight any kiddos for the candy}, a potluck full of yummy food & drink, and of course Dad's famous oyster nachos.  We headed home in the late afternoon to spend the rest of the evening at Mom & Dad's place where we watched fireworks from the deck and had a very low key and quiet evening.

Happy Birthday Kami!

Happy Birthday to my sweet friend Kami!  I'd like to say this picture was taken last summer but it was actually almost 9 years ago - we look the same though, right?  Kam, this just shows how long we've been buddies {and it goes way farther back than this} and that even though life takes us in different directions sometimes, I can always count on you for the best time.  Cheers to you my friend!

4th of July {part 2}

After the parade, we spent most of the afternoon eating, drinking, and alternating between sweatshirts and tank tops since the weather could not decide what it wanted to do.  We took our obligatory pictures {girls + babies on the bulkhead, everyone on the beach} and even convinced dad to make a second round of oyster nachos for those that missed round 1.  As afternoon turned to evening, Christian and I decided to head back to the city to check on Nina, but as we were arriving on Queen Anne right as the sky was darkening, we took a detour and followed the hoards of people heading to the top of the hill to watch the Lake Union fireworks {we had no idea where we were going but ended up in a group of probably thousands where the streets were closed for the festivities}.  It was such a fun day with some of my most favorite people and I can't wait to do it again next year!

4th of July {part 1}

On July 4th we woke up bright and early to get to my most favorite event of the year - 4th of July at Samish Island.  After a quick pit stop at Mom & Dad's house, we headed out to Christian's first ever trip to the island where we were greeted by a crisp breeze and the sunshine trying to poke through.  As the morning progressed, more and more friends stopped by for fun, oysters, and of course, the parade.  This year we had both the Welty crew in their Bronco & Ryley on his bike participating in the parade, making it so much more fun to watch with our friends riding along {although I did miss the play by play commentary with Kami :)}.  By the time Ryley got back to our house on the parade route he decided he was done {I mean, what fun is riding in the parade when you can sit and get candy thrown at you instead?!?} and one of my most favorite parts of the day was Linnea teaching Ryley how to hold out his hands so he could get the most candy :)  It was such a fun morning, and I know Christian loved his first ever Samish Island parade.  There really is nothing else like it.
