Favorite Turkey Burgers

My copy of Everyday Food: Great Food Fast is very well loved {there are pages falling out of it and it's quite food-stained}, yet I still go back to it time and time again for recipe inspiration and favorite classics.  Case in point - Favorite Turkey Burgers!  These are so easy to whip up on a weeknight and super flavorful, making great leftovers all week long.  I switch up the cheese I use in the burgers {sometimes sharp cheddar, sometimes pepperjack} and they are just as easy to cook on a bbq as they are in a pan on the stove.  These are a go to in the summer months and I highly suggest you make them next time you're craving a flavorful, juicy burger.

Favorite Turkey Burgers

Ingredients
1 1/2 lbs ground turkey
1/2 cup finely grated Gruyere cheese {or any favorite cheese}
4 green onions, thinly sliced
1/4 cup dried breadcrumbs
1/4 cup Dijon mustard
1 garlic clove, minced
Salt & Pepper
Burger buns and favorite burger toppings

Instructions
1. In medium bowl, gently combine turkey, cheese, green onions, breadcrumbs, mustard and garlic, seasoning with salt & pepper.  Divide mixture evenly to form burger patties {the number will vary on how thick you make the patties}.
2. Lightly oil a grill or pan.  Cook patties on both sides until seared and done throughout, about 5-10 minutes per side.
3. Toast burger buns if desired.  Serve with desired toppings.

Happy Birthday Leslie!

Happy Birthday to one of my most favorite people, Leslie!  I'm hoping this year is one where we get to see each other because I miss your face and catching up, even though when we do it's like no time has passed at all.  I hope you are having wonderful adventures and loving life like you always do - big squeezes for another trip around the sun!

Kedai Makan

On our Sunday walk we decided to stop for lunch at Kedai Makan, a Malaysian restaurant on Capitol Hill that I've wanted to try for years {I never made it to their walk up window but this was the next best thing}.  Typically it's really busy in the evenings so we figured since we could walk right in on a Sunday afternoon we should take advantage and cross it off our list.  We had no idea what to order but went with the waitress's suggestions of Nasi Lemak {the national dish of Malaysia} with chicken curry and the Laksa Lemak with tofu & prawns alongside a "funky" pineapple and cucumber salad {Kerabu Timun Nanas} which was really refreshing.  Everything we ate was delicious with bold flavors and yummy spices and it was the perfect meal to fill us up for our walk back down the hill.  I'm so happy we got to spontaneously try this place that's been on our radar forever and I'd definitely head back to try more of their yummy menu.

Urban Hiking {Summer on Capitol Hill}

Sunday morning C and I decided to head out on a walking adventure early since the forecast said it was expected to hit 90 degrees that day and break a record {spoiler alert - it did}.  We haven't been up to Capitol Hill in awhile so we decided to drive down to SLU and park, then make our way up the hill {to avoid having to climb back up QA during the hottest part of the day}.  After we walked under the freeway we started our hike at the Blaine Street Stairs that include hundreds of never ending stairs straight up that end at the Streissguth Gardens.  It was beautiful, but I was dying :)  After we got to the top, we made our way to Volunteer Park and then headed south towards the heart of Capitol Hill, wandering down 15th where I more often than not pointed out old places I used to visit and fun memories from the past {man, I've lived in this city a long time}.  We stopped for a yummy lunch {more on that later}, then made our way back down the hill towards the car, where I was ever so grateful that we were driving back home instead of walking while the temps kept creeping higher and higher.  It was a lovely 6 mile loop out in the sunshine and exploring parts of the city that I love!
