Maui {Day 5}

Tuesday morning we took the advice of the guidebooks and woke up early to try The Gazebo for breakfast, just a few minutes up the road from our condo.  We arrived a little before 8AM {they open at 7:30} and were greeted with a long line of hungry beach goers waiting just like us.  Since we heard this place is the best for breakfast, we decided to wait and with free coffee and gorgeous views, the line went incredibly quick.  We each wanted omelettes, but since The Gazebo is know for their fried rice, we decided to get a small order as well to share, but after seeing the size of our omelettes the rice definitely had to come home with us to be eaten another time.  The food was delicious and affordable by Maui standards, so if you're in the area you have to make a stop at this perfectly situated restaurant.  After breakfast we walked out to the rocks in front of the restaurant where so many huge turtles were swimming and surfing in the rocks.  I'd never seen so many up close before so I made Christian stay probably longer than he would've liked just to take it all in :)  After breakfast, we decided to take a road trip south to Big Beach in Makena then work our way back up the coast.  The drive down was beautiful, but it was probably our hottest day on the island and when we arrived at the beach we realized how unprepared we were when we saw everyone else had umbrellas to stay shaded.  We meandered around a bit taking in all the sun and heat, and after a quick hike over some rocks, where we stumbled upon the hidden Little Beach {which just so happens to be a nude beach} we decided to head back up the coast to see what else this area of the island had to offer.  We drove through Wailea and Kihei, but when confronted with the choice of either way too expensive resorts or strip malls lining the highway, we decided we were much happier on our side of the island and headed back north.  Along the drive I looked up a few happy hour possibilities in Lahaina and we decided on Fleetwood's on Front Street where we grabbed the last two bar seats and enjoyed wine and appetizers while listening to live music.  After happy hour, we had to make one last stop at Leoda's where we were told the best banana cream pie was located - after all, we had a big birthday that had to be celebrated the next day :)
